ROCKFORD ATHLETICS I HOME OF THE RAMS

The Rockford varsity kicked off the season with an outstanding performance against some of the top teams in the state. The rams faced the pre season #1, #5, #7, and #8 teams from across the state. In the first game the Rams faced off against cross town rival Jenison. For the first game of the season the rams were a little frazzled and had to pick out a good way to come together. For the first half it was a close matchup but the rams took control in the 3rd quarter and took a commanding lead. Once the final buzzer sounded the rams outlasted the wildcats of Jenison with a 11-7 victory. Reese ward had the hot hand tallying 7 goals for the rams. Sawyer Artz in the cage tallied an impressive 13 saves. For the second game of the weekend the rams faced the River Rats of Ann Arbor Huron which are in a little bit of a rebuild phase. The rams came out swinging and never missed a beat during the game. The rams got great rotations and had great performances from all the athletes. The rams had 7 different scores in the contest. The rams finished the game winning 14-1 On Saturday morning the rams faced a big, fast, and strong Zeeland team. This was a true test of endurance and stamina for the rams. We knew we were outmatched but the speed that Zeeland had. This game was kept close the entire way from start to finish. In the 4th quarter the rams got a 2 goal lead which secured the win for them. The rams finished the game with a win 7-6 which was a fantastic achievement an a great starting point for the rams. In the final game of the weekend the Rams faced a well known opponent in the Hudsonville Eagles. We have faced each other many times over the years and we knew this was going to be a fantastic, clean and physical game. For a majority of the game it was close but the rams didn't miss a beat in the contest. The rams held Hudsonville's best player to 1 goal. The defense for the rams never missed a beat and kept grinding. Once the final whistle sounded the rams won 7-3. Overall it was a fantastic weekend for the rams. Getting 4 solid wins early in the season shows that we have great potential. These wins shoed us what we need to work out and how we can play with any team in the state. The rams head to the East side of the state on Friday, August 21- Saturday, August 22 where they will face 2 teams from Ohio and 3 teams from the East to see how we match up.
