ROCKFORD ATHLETICS I HOME OF THE RAMS

The varsity water polo team headed East for the weekend and it was a great outcome. The Rams went 5-0 to playing some remarkable water polo as a team. The Rams started the weekend off by Facing the Comets of Mason from Ohio. Mason has been known as a strong contender in Ohio and the Rams knew they had a test coming their way. The game was held close early but the Rams quickly gained control of the game with some remarkable defense. Once the Rams got going they never missed a beat. Once the final whistle was blown the rams had an outstanding win with a score of 17-4. The rams had 10 different scorers in the contest and were led by senior Captain Connor Geskus with 4 goals. While the Defense was on the rams tallied 23 total steals on the game. This was a great start to the weekend. In the second game of the weekend the Rams faced a close rival of Jenison. Last weekend this game was much closer but this time the Rams didn't hold back and pushed from start to finish. The Rams defense once again was on point and didn't miss a beat. The rams kept a steady lead throughout the game and finished the game with a win of 13-5. The Rams had 7 different scorers in this contest and were led by Reese Ward who tallied 4 goals. Sawyer Artz and Boon Redinger both tallied 7 saves in the cage. After a late night of games the rams had 3 more games on Saturday against 1 team from Ohio and 2 form the east side of the state. The first game on Saturday was against the raining state champs of Ohio. The St. Charles Cardinals are one of the premier teams in Ohio who have won many championships. This didn't deter the Rams and they showed grit and toughness from start to finish. The rams suffocating defense made the Cardinals have to scramble and try to find a way to stay close in the game. With the extremely hard press the Rams put on, the Cards couldn't find a way to break them. Once the last whistle sounded the rams held a victory of 11-7 which was the first time the rams beat St. Charles in a few years. In the second game of Saturday the Rams faced the host team of Saline. Once again the Rams didn't back down and pushed from start to finish. Multiple steals, multiple goals and lots of minutes for everyone showed that this team is here to compete. The rams had 8 different scorers and were led by Benjamin Sluiter with 3 goals on the contest. The final score was 13-3 and the rams were astonished with this win. For the final game of the weekend the Rams faced the Gators of Birmingham Groves. The Gators are in a little bit of a rebuild phase which allowed the rams to play many different lineups and try different things while the contest was being player. The rams had 12 different scorers in the contest and tallied a total of 19 steals. Connor Geskus had a game high 4 steals. The final buzzer sounded and the rams were victorious with a 15-3 win. This tournament was a long one and the guys could feel the energy was drained after 5 games. The rams learned a lot from these games and are ready for the next contest. This coming weekend the Rams head to Grand Haven for the shootout at the shores tournament where they will face 3 in town teams who are all looking for wins over the Rams. The rams will begin the tournament vs East Kentwood on Friday and then play Hudsonville and Zeeland on Saturday.
