ROCKFORD ATHLETICS I HOME OF THE RAMS

The Rams had to fight all night to come away with a victory. The game remained scoreless through 3 quarters but despite the lack of goals, the Rams were determined to win. The Rams controlled the game from the onset and did not allow a shot on goal the entire game thanks to some very good defense by Maddie Unger, Libby Zink and Mia Mabry. It wasn't until the 4th quarter when the Rams started to get some quality scoring chances. The Lakers defense had really made it difficult to get some good shots off in the first 3 quarters. The Rams came out strong in the 4th and immediately attacked the goal. The Rams got off several shots on the Laker goalie and had an opening. A shot that looked like it was about to go in was illegally touched by a Laker defender which awarded the Rams a Penalty Stroke. Luna Mitchell lined up to take the penalty stroke and sent a beautiful shot toward the upper left corner of the goal. Unfortunately, it hit the left post and deflected away. This opportunity gave the Rams just what they needed. I boost that they did not have much of the game. It was not much longer before the Rams would capitalize. Avery Maag attacked down the right side and sent a beautiful crossing pass which was redirected by Isabelle Schubert to Carolina Hernandez who placed the deflection into the goal. The Rams were done and they continued to attack getting off more shots on goal then they had the previous 3 quarters. The Rams were able to earn a penalty corner and they would not waste this opportunity. Schubert inserted the ball directly to Mitchell who sent a very good hit into the right corner of the goal to put the Rams up 2-0. This was a great team win and the result of some really good team play down the stretch. The Rams get right back at it tomorrow against a very good East Grand Rapids team. Game time for Varsity is at 5:00 PM at EGR Mehney field.
