It's never easy losing to your biggest rival but especially hard when you play extremely hard. The Rams went up 1-0 early in the first quarter, when Avery Maag, streaking down the right alley, hit a beautiful hit past the goalie. The Rams were fired up taking an early lead and holding on until the last few seconds of the first half. Unfortunately, East Grand Rapids would steal some of that momentum when they were able to draw a penalty corner with seconds left in the first half. The Pioneers would capitalize on the penalty and score, tying the game at 1-1 going into halftime. The Rams were not discouraged, and this was shaping up to be another classic EGR-Rockford Field Hockey match. Both teams would trade blows in the 3rd quarter with neither team being able to break the tie. Halfway through the 4th quarter, the Pioneers would strike again and take a 2-1 lead. The Rams really turned up the pressure, coming up with some really good possessions in the last few minutes but were unable to find the equalizer and fell 2-1.
