The Rockford varsity water polo team welcomed 4 of the top teams in Ohio for a battle of the states this weekend. It was a true exciting atmosphere and all the games this wekeend were filled with exciting moments. The Rams began play on Friday night against the #4 Comets from William Mason High School. The game was a battle form the start to the finish. Mason is a verey scrappy team and has exceptional goaltending. The rams had 6 different scorers on the evening which capped off for a great start to the weekend. The rams scorers were Davis Ward- 5, Henry Cheney-1, Walter Tracy-1, Connor Geskus-3, Reese Ward-1, and Thomas Hurst-2. In between the pipes we shared the goal with Evan Pierce and Sawyer Artz. Pierce ended up with 12 saves and 1 assist while Artz tallier 6 saves, 1 assist and 1 penalty block. The game ended with the rams winning 13-11 to begin the tremendous weekend. On Saturday morning the rams facer the #5 Bombers of St. Xavier high school. The bombers are usually known as a quick and fast paced team but the rams held strong and diminished their counter attack. The rams had exceptional defense and made great plays on the offensive end of the pool. The rams again had 6 different scorers on the game and tallied 18 steals. Pierce and Artz again played exceptional in the cage tallying a total of 9 saves between the both of them. The rams capped off the win 11-9 to begin play on Saturday morning. For the second game on Saturday the rams played the Golden Bears of Upper Arlington High school. The bears are ranked #2 in the State of Ohio. Upper Arlington is always known to be a strong and quick moving team with many different plays that get thrown at teams. The Rams held stead fast and ran a fantastic zone defense witch stopped many of the bears top threats. This zone defense made the bears have to shoot from the outside which made there offensive plan dwindle. Evan Pierce had a fantastic game in cage. The rams offense was remarkable as well and made it challenging for the Bears to stop. The rams ended up winning 7-6 in a dog fight until the end. For the final game of the weekend the Rams played the Cardinals of St. Charles who are ranked #1 in the state of Ohio. This game was going to be a true test for the rams as St. Charles has some major talent that's playing at the next level once the graduate. The rams struggled with the physicality of the Cardinals and couldn't capitalize on offense when needed. The rams ultimately fell to St. Charles 7-10 but never gave up during the game. Overall this weekend was a major success going 3-1 when last year in this tournament we went 1-3. The rams are headed into there final week of the regular season before post season play begins on October 23-24 with Districts.
