The Rockford Rams Boys Tennis Team closed out their 2025 season in unforgettable fashion, competing on the biggest stage, the Division 1 State Finals at the Midland Tennis Center. But this year, the Rams didn’t come to simply participate. They came to prove they belong among Michigan’s elite. From the first serve of the season to the final point in Midland, the Rams showed heart, grit, and a belief in each other that never wavered. Their mission was clear, qualify for the state tournament and finish inside the top 10 in Division 1. It’s one of the toughest goals in Michigan high school tennis, and this group didn’t just meet that mark, they shattered program history. The Rams finished 7th in the state with 10 total points, the highest finish and most points ever recorded by the Rockford Boys Tennis program. Every flight made it at least to the round of 16, with standout performances at every level. At 1 Singles, senior Elijah Johnson earned a thrilling win over Bloomfield Hills’ Connor Shaya, battling through a gritty 7-5 third set to advance. At 3 Singles, junior Alex Moore outlasted Detroit Catholic Central’s Zac Mentzer in a dramatic 10-8 third set tiebreak. In doubles play, the Rams were exceptional. The 1 Doubles team of seniors Quinn Geshel and Sam Martin advanced all the way to the state semifinals to help the Rams qualify for day two of state competition, falling only to the #1 seed Brother Rice. Along the way, they notched big-time wins over top teams from Novi and Okemos. At 2 Doubles, Jayden Fudge and Joey Misiak powered their way into the quarterfinals with dominant play, while the 4 Doubles duo of seniors Trae Storms and Carter Drolema added another key win against Rochester in the first match of the day. Every match, every point, and every rally added up to something much bigger than tennis, a moment in program history that will be remembered for years to come.
